Pirates through to last eight in Nedbank Cup

Orlando Pirates bagged a 3-1 victory over United FC in Bloemfontein on Saturday night to reach the quarterfinals of the Nedbank Cup.

The visitors, in contention for the Premier League title, dominated from the first whistle to progress in the knockout competition.

While they wasted a few chances in both halves, the Buccaneers would have been pleased with a clinical effort against their Firist Division opponents.

Pirates took the lead in the 10th minute when United’s Lungisani Ndlela headed in an own goal.

And 18 minutes later Oupa Manyisa scored from long range to give the visitors a 2-0 advantage at the break.

The hosts never gave up and in the 58th minute Junior Khanye latched on to a cross and fired one home to pull one back.

Dikgang Mabalane, however, put the matter beyond doubt when he scored Pirates’ third in the 75th minute to give them a buffer which they held comfortably until the final whistle. – Sapa
