A Pretoria community policing forum (CPF) member has been ordered to appear in an identity parade on Tuesday following the murder of a Mokopane man, Beeld reported.
Gustav Botha was arrested over the weekend at his Valhalla home. On Sunday morning, North Gauteng High Court Judge Hans Fabricious however ordered police to release him, but ordered him to appear in an identity parade.
The lawyer representing Botha and the Wierdabrug CPF, Anton Smith, said police had no warrant to search Botha’s home, or to arrest him.
Botha and fellow CPF leader Johan van der Schyff are accused of the murder of Lucas Gwanga (55) on April 7.
Van der Schyff is currently in custody until his next court appearance on June 22.
It is alleged that 12 people were involved in Gwanga’s death.
According to Smith, local residents brought an injured Gwanga to the CPF’s office for help on April 7. A CPF member called an ambulance.
Gwanga was declared dead on arrival at Kalafong Hospital in Atteridgeville. He was allegedly beaten with golf clubs before being run over by a car in a local park, where homeless people slept.
Smith told Beeld the rest of the CPF members are expected to take part in an identity parade on Wednesday. — Sapa
