One of SA’s most wanted men arrested at Beitbridge

Bongani Moyo, one of South Africa’s most wanted criminals, was arrested near the Beitbridge border post in Limpopo when he returned for medical treatment, police said on Friday.

Colonel Neville Malila said it was believed Moyo (29) had fled to his native country, Zimbabwe, for three days but had tried to return to South Africa for “urgent medical attention”. He would not disclose what was wrong with him, saying this was part of the investigation.

Moyo was arrested just before 11pm on Thursday after police received information. Police described Moyo as “dangerous” and linked to about 35 bank robberies. He escaped from the Boksburg prison in March.

“I’m thrilled. Well done to the special team of detectives who were tasked to track down Moyo and his accomplices. They worked around the clock following up on the many leads of the public,” provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Mzwandile Petros said.

On Sunday evening police arrested Khumbulani “KB” Sibanda (37) and his cousin Thabane “Ogies” Sibanda (27) during a raid in Orange Grove, Johannesburg. Four other people, including a prison warder, were also arrested.
