Nkosinathi Nhleko has been appointed as the labour department’s new director general (DG), the department said on Tuesday.
“Nhleko was previously head of the specialised anti-corruption unit in the department of public service and administration …,” said spokesperson Page Boikanyo.
He replaced Jimmy Manyi, who is now head of the Government Communication and Information Services.
Commenting on the appointment, Labour Minister Mildred Oliphant said his presence “will help us to expedite the implementation of the department’s programme of action”.
Boikanyo said Nhleko had worked as a deputy municipal manager for the Umhlathuze municipality in KwaZulu-Natal, and as a regional commissioner with the department of correctional services.
He had served Parliament as chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Public Service and Administration, chairperson of the ANC caucus, ANC chief whip, and was a member of the Judicial Service Commission, she said. — Sapa
