Cape Town is set to host a technology extravaganza on June 1-2 2011 with Apps World and Social Media World Forum.

Prepare yourself for two days of top-level digital discussion, educational workshops and international industry networking amongst like-minded people, as well as the chance to view the latest offerings from international technology giants including Google Android, Nokia, RIM (makers of BlackBerry), InMobi and Enough Software.

The Apps World workshops will focus on smartphone applications (apps) in Africa from both a business and development perspective.

Topics to be discussed will include the growth potential of apps in Africa, dealing with the development of apps across different platforms in Africa, how the apps industry is being monetised and how developers can make money from their apps development.

The Social Media World Forum Africa workshops will focus on a wide range of topics: from integrating social media into a traditional marketing strategy, using mobile social media as a marketing tool, managing your social reputation, to examining strategies for using social media for B2B marketing and much, much more.

Companies on the guest speaker bill are varied and diverse: Groupon South Africa (currently spending R3 million a month marketing through Facebook, Twitter and Google Ads), AVIS, Standard Bank, Nike, Investec, Woolworths, MXit, Google and many more.

Social Media World Forum Africa is also offering free-to-attend workshops covering all levels of ability, from in-depth developer workshops hosted by Google, Nokia and Blackberry, to fundamentals sessions covering the basics of social media strategy.
