The Gautrain’s new fares

Airport service fares will increase from R100 to R105 per trip for commuters departing from Sandton, Marlboro and Rhodesfield, said the company in a statement on Tuesday.

The new structure will also make it possible for regular commuter service users to purchase the seven-day and 35-day passes that carry savings of 10% and 20% respectively compared to single pay-as-you-go fare costs.

In the case of the Sandton and Rhodesfield route, the new 35-day pass will effectively cost R19.61 per trip compared to the previous R21 per trip.

The company said it had also considerably simplified parking tariffs and this would result in significant savings for passengers who parked and caught the train to the airport and back.

The parking tariff will be applicable from all stations and will cost R10 for the first 24 hours — as long as the user also catches the train.

Another change is the making of an airport service available from Marlboro. From Wednesday, airport passengers may embark or disembark at the Marlboro and Sandton stations.

This means that passengers may catch a train directly to the airport from Marlboro station, instead of having to go via Sandton, the company said.

Passengers may also return directly to Marlboro from the airport.

A gold cards service will also see passengers being able to order registered cards from any station ticket office.

The company said this new offering would enable passengers to link their personal identities to a specific Gautrain Gold Card.

In the event that this card gets lost or stolen it will be possible for the company to blacklist it and transfer any unused value to a new one. — Sapa
