Singer Chad Saaiman is in an intensive-care unit after being shot during an attempted hijacking in Glenhazel, northern Johannesburg, Gauteng police said on Monday.
“He was shot in the stomach at about 6.30pm [on Sunday] … he managed to drive to a house nearby and call for help,” said Captain Kym Cloete.
“The hijackers didn’t manage to get the car.”
A woman at the house called police while Saaiman remained sitting in his Polo.
He was later taken to hospital.
Police did not know how many suspects were involved as they had not been able to get statements from Saaiman.
Saaiman was nominated for a South African Music Award in 2009. — Sapa
