Recently unveiled at Durban’s most exciting galleries are two excellent new exhibitions.
■ A History of My Life in 100 Objects is an intriguing collection of paintings and ceramics by Louise Jennings that charts the myriad objects that have become markers on the map of the artist’s history. Documenting ‘moments of mental and spiritual mindfulness”, each work contains a concentrated stillness and inexhaustible presence. Also on show is an exhibition of paintings by Grace Kotze entitled The Anatomy of the Un-seen, a fascinating exploration of how the unseen can manifest in the physical. This notion resides most strongly in the portrait, a medium whose bewitching emotional power Kotze realises to great effect.
