Man in court over killing of Mpumalanga doctor

A 31-year-old man who allegedly stabbed a doctor to death at a hospital in Mpumalanga appeared in the Middelburg Magistrate’s Court on Friday, South African Broadcasting Corporation news reported.

Jimmy Mkadimeng asked to have the case postponed so he could arrange for a state lawyer to represent him.

Mkadimeng, who was a patient at the Middelburg Hospital, allegedly stabbed Dr Senzosenkosi Mkhize in the chest and stabbed the wrist of a security guard who tried to intervene on Tuesday.

Mkhize was working in the out-patient department where the patient had gone for a follow-up consultation.

The guard was admitted to the same hospital in a stable condition. Mkhize was transferred to a nearby private hospital in a critical condition and died later in the day.

Mkadimeng was arrested on Wednesday.

Mpumalanga police spokesperson Leonard Hlati said he would be kept in prison until his next court appearance on July 7. — Sapa
