Pyeongchang to host 2018 Winter Olympics

The South Korean alpine resort of Pyeongchang will host the 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

The announcement was made by Jacques Rogge at the International Convention Centre in Durban on Wednesday.

Pyeongchang, which previously lost out in bids to host the 2010 and 2014 Winter Games, beat out the German city of Munich and the small French commune of Annecy in bids to stage the 2018 event.

Rogge said Pyeongchang had received the majority of the 95 votes after only one round of the secret ballot.—Sapa
