Schwartzel nabs ninth place in the world of golf

Charl Schwartzel reached a career-high ninth in the latest world golf rankings released on Monday.

Schwartzel carded a tournament score of level-par and shared ninth place in the RBC Canadian Open in Vancouver last week, climbing three places up the rankings.

Countryman Jaco van Zyl displayed good form in the Nordea Masters in Sweden and tied for 13th when Swede Alex Noren used home ground advantage to win the tournament by seven shots.

Van Zyl was tied for third at eight under par going into the final day, but struggled in the last round and dropped seven shots to finish at one under par.

At the Worldwide Holdings Selangor Masters on the Asian Tour, Tjaart van der Walt recorded a top-10 finish with a final score of 11 under par and a tie for eighth, four shots behind the lead.

David Frost came sixth in the Senior Open Championship in Surrey, England where he carded a tournament total of seven under par and earned a cheque large enough to take him to ninth place on the tour’s Order of Merit. — Sapa
