Cape comedy pick: August 12 2011

Celebrating its 15th anniversary this year, the Nando’s Cape Town Comedy Festival is the biggest comedy extravaganza on the African continent.

Pablo Francisco, who was the main act at the Johannesburg and Durban festivals last year, is back by popular demand and in Cape Town for the first time. He is joined by Greg Behrendt (co-author of He’s Just Not That Into You), Mark Eddie, Michael Loftus and Dan Cummins and company. Another part of the festival is the popular local stand-up competition, Graça Comedy Showdown, which is hosted at the Zula Bar in Long Street. Contestants compete on stage with nothing more than their quick wit, a microphone and a burning desire to become the newest comedy star.

Opera House, Artscape Theatre Centre, Foreshore. Until August 15. Book at Computicket. Tel: 021 421 7695. Website: www.artscape.co.za.
