Krejcir case postponed to October

Krejcir Case Postponed To October

Czech businessman Radovan Krejcir appeared briefly on Monday in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court, where his fraud case was postponed to October 11.

The 42-year-old appeared on a fraud charge relating to a R4.5-million claim made to an insurance company after he allegedly obtained medical papers stating he had cancer.

The postponement was for the state to hand over a copy of the docket to the defence. His lawyer Eddie Klaasen said he would wait for a copy from the State, and a trial date would be set when they appear in court on October 11.

Dressed in black jacket and a pair of jeans, Krejcir told reporters outside the court that he was “100% health-wise”.

In his last court appearance in July, the court refused to reduce his bail amount from R500 000 to R250 000 — stating that the bail guarantee was not the first option, as he had property valued at over R20-million.

He wanted the bail money reduced so that he would be able to pay his medical costs.

Two policemen escorted state prosecutor Riegel du Toit to court as part of the 24-hour protection assigned to him, after his name was found on an apparent hit-list during a raid at Krejcir’s house.
