Durban’s annual adult panto and a one-man show should get audiences laughing this week.
? Aaron McIlroy @ Work is the title of a new production by one of South Africa’s leading comedians.
McIlroy’s surreal, sardonic style has been strongly in evidence in previous successes such as The Loser, The Golfer, DOF, The Stand-Up and Reality Bytes. In his latest satirical work, the entertainer sets his sights on the high-powered corporate world to show us that he means business — and that business is no small laughing matter. McIlroy fans can look forward to a typically loopy line-up of nutty new characters such as Mister Corporate Charisma (aka Cornelius Prewitt Layder), Gate-Keeper and the Portals of God (aka gender-equality secretary Dustin). Aaron McIlroy @ Work is another collaboration with actress and writer Susan Monteregge.
Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre, University of KwaZulu-Natal, November 2 to 27. Tickets are R95 at Computicket.
? It’s that time of the year for Durban’s most outrageous actors, dancers and singers to untangle their fishnets and dust off their décolletés for the annual adult pantomime, in which sexual innuendo and double entendres fly thick and fast.
Now in its 15th year, the 2011 incarnation is a saucy production of Alice in Wonderland, featuring Anthony Stonier as the Queen of Hearts, Thomie Holtzhausen as the White Rabbit and Caterpillar, Daisy Spencer as Dora Mouse, Tweedledum and the Cheshire Cat, Sean de Klerk as the Mad Hatter and Tweedledee, Marc Kay as the Knave of Hearts and panto virgin Donnagh Roberts as Alice.
Suncoast Zone, Suncoast Casino, November 1 to December 31. Shows take place on Tuesdays to Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays at 2pm. Tickets R100 to R120 at Computicket. Tel: 083 250 2690. Website: www.suncoastcasino.co.za.
