South Africa is fed a healthy diet of home-grown comedy and, say what you like about the quality of our crop, you have to admit that it’s diverse.
? We’ve got funny Muslims, funny Jews, funny Hindus and funny Wasps. But we never seem to hear from the agents provocateurs north of Fourways. Well, this week you can attend the Stand Up Africa Comedy Experience, which brings together funny guys from all over the continent. Hear Nigeria’s Basketmouth and Klint the Drunk, Daliso Chaponda from Malawi, Uganda’s David Kibuuka and Carl Joshua Ncube from Zimbabwe, as well as South Africa’s Kagiso Lediga and Ndumiso Lindi. Crowd-pleasers will include KZee and the Naked DJ.

? Popular comedian Mark Sampson’s new show furthers his interest in big subject matter (he did a show about the origins of humankind and evolution at the Cradle site). This time, Sampson presents what he is calling a “green comedy”. In Africa Clockwise, he talks about taking his family in a giant green 10-tonne truck around Africa in a clockwise direction. He asks: “How can the wisdom of Africa show us the way to cope with climate change?”
