SABC chairperson slammed for hiring consultant

An internal forensic audit has slammed South African Broadcasting Corporation board chairperson Ben Ngubane for his appointment of consultant Justice Ndaba as the acting group executive for human capital services, the Sunday Tribune reported.

Ndaba was both an employee and a consultant to the SABC.

Ngubane signed the contract appointing Ndaba’s company, Ndabazabantu People Solutions, which was never cancelled.

The report, which was presented to the board on Friday, said Ndaba’s appointment was procedurally flawed and criticised Ngubane’s involvement in the SABC’s operational affairs.

“[The] group internal audit was unable to determine why Ngubane descended into the operational running of the SABC by signing this contract,” the Sunday Tribune quoted from the audit report.

Ngubane also failed to act against Ndaba when he was notified of Ndaba’s questionable profile by recruitment firm Spencer Stuart, according to the newspaper.

Spencer Stuart could not verify whether Ndaba had been issued with the qualifications he claimed to have and had not declared his interest in a mining firm to the SABC.

He also had a R2.4-million judgment against him, and was handed over for legal action to recover two amounts of about R50 000, according to the Sunday Tribune. – Sapa
