Presidential spokesperson Zizi Kodwa intends taking legal action against the two officers who arrested him for drunken driving in Rosebank, Johannesburg, early on Friday.
“I’m going to sue for wrongful and malicious arrest,” Kodwa told the South African Press Association in a telephone interview, following his arrest around 3am.
“The officers pulled me off the road without introducing themselves.”
He claimed the pair told him: “Usually people who drive around Rosebank at this time are always under the influence.”
The officers had Kodwa follow them in his vehicle for about five hours before taking him to have blood drawn, claimed the spokesperson.
Kodwa said he would make the results of his blood test public because he had “nothing to hide”.
Earlier in the day, Kodwa appeared in the Hillbrow Magistrate’s Court and was released on R1Â 000 bail.
Gauteng police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Katlego Mogale said he was arrested in the early morning hours and taken to a district surgeon for a blood sample to be drawn.
His case was postponed to May next year. — Sapa
