Putting the verse into anniversary is Durban’s Live Poets’ Society — or LiPS — which celebrates 16 years of storied history this week.
For this special event the LiPSomaniacs have summoned a most formidable member of their ranks to be the guest poet for the December rendezvous. Renowned poet and sculptor Hannah Lurie has made an indelible contribution to art, literature and social causes in South Africa and both her poems and sculptures have received a variety of prestigious awards. She has been awarded several prizes for her book I’m too Sexy for My Hair, a patient-empowerment book poignantly dealing with breast cancer.
Point Yacht Club, Victoria Embankment, December 7 at 6pm. Entrance is free and all are welcome. Tel: 083 282 0865.
