Searching for South Africa’s heroines

The Mail & Guardian is looking for some of South Africa’s most inspiring unsung heroines for the annual Book of South African Women.

After seven years as a little black book of the country’s leading ladies, the book is now searching from the ground up for women who are changing South Africa one community, one workplace or one family at a time.

“We are looking for the women who wake up every day doing the impossible, against all odds, and inspire others along the way,” said M&G features editor Tanya Pampalone.

The inspiring women sought and nominated for the Book of South African Women should show leadership qualities such as the ability to inspire, plan and execute their ideas with exceptional efficiency. These passionate women aspire to goals that appear unattainable, systematically plan how to achieve their goals, often using finite resources, and have another plan ready if the first does not work.

The women featured in the book will be photographed by acclaimed portrait photographer Sally Shorkend and their photographs will be accompanied by profiles. The book will also include essays by some of the country’s top writers and thinkers.

Nominations can be submitted online at mg.co.za/women2012 or by email to [email protected] until April 6. The book will be published in early August, in time for Women’s Month.
