Petrol price set to rise by 28c

The retail price of all grades of petrol will increase by 28c per litre on Wednesday May 2, the department of energy announced on Wednesday.

This follows a 71c rise in the price of petrol in April.

The price of 0.05% sulphur diesel and that of 0.005% sulphur diesel will go up by 9.4 cents and 8.4 cents per litre respectively.

During the period under review, the average international product prices of petrol increased, while diesel and illuminating paraffin decreased.

The average rand/dollar exchange rate weakened when compared to the previous period. The average rand/dollar exchange rate for the period March 30 to April 24 was 7.8536 compared with 7.6193 during the previous period.

The weakening of the rand against the US dollar increased the contribution to the basic fuels price on petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin by 21.23c, 21.12c and 20.79c respectively.

Petrol 95 ULP octane in Gauteng will now cost R12.22 a litre, while at the coast it will cost R11.87 per litre.

The single maximum national retail price for illuminating paraffin will increase by 12c per litre to R10.76 per litre.

The maximum retail price for liquid petroleum gas will increase by 31c per kilogramme. — I-Net Bridge
