Scheepers jumps ahead in world tennis ranks

South Africa's women's tennis No. 1 Chanelle Scheepers has climbed up the WTA tennis rankings after her appearance at the French Open.

Scheepers, South Africa’s women’s No. 1, rose two positions to 43rd in the latest rankings list released on Monday.
 
She defeated Spaniard Laura Pous-Tio 6-4, 2-6, 6-1 in the first round at Roland Garros.
 
She was then eliminated by Russian Nadia Petrova, the former world No. 3, in straight sets in the second round.
 
The men’s world rankings had not yet been updated, with the French Open final between Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, which started on Sunday, postponed to Monday due to rain. – Sapa
