"We will make a major announcement on Wednesday to the country in terms of the leadership," he said on Monday.

He denied a report that the league's national executive committee (NEC) had decided its nomination list for the top six positions in the ANC.

"They have not finalised … it is just speculation," said Kupa, an NEC member.

The NEC had "deliberated on the issue".

"They [the NEC] have mandated the political committee headed by deputy president Ronald Lamola to finalise the perspective on leadership with the provincial and regional chairpersons and secretaries," he said.

The political committee would report back to the NEC by Tuesday.

The committee would also develop a document on leadership, Kupa said.

The league would present the policies it was taking to Mangaung on Wednesday.

Nominations for candidates for the ANC's top leadership positions opened at the weekend. The national elections will take place in Mangaung in December at the ANC's national conference.

Branches are the first to make nominations, followed by the regions, and then the provinces.

The youth league, ANC veterans organisation, and ANC Women's League are treated as provinces.

For the purpose of nominations, the ANC has 12 provinces. – Sapa
