North West Cops Shocked At Video Footage Of Mob Attack
Intelligence-driven operations in Cape Town’s suburbs have led to wanted suspects being arrested and illegal drugs confiscated in a pre-festive season police clampdown.

The video showed police officers standing by as the man was stoned to death in Lomanyaneng, near Mahikeng, she said in a statement.

"The video presents us with contradicting information from the initial information that we received from the report sent to us by the station.

"This information was that police arrived at the scene after the incident had already happened and found the man already dead."

The 24-year-old man was stoned to death by community members after allegedly stabbing his girlfriend in the chest and running away on May 25.

She died at the scene. Mbombo said the police should have known better, and that their role was to enforce the law at all times.

"It is an offence for a crime to be committed in front of a police officer," she said.

Internal investigation
Images of the attack were published on the front age of the New Age newspaper on Monday.

Mbombo said an internal investigation would be set up to ensure the officers involved were brought to account for their actions.

She said people should allow the law to take its course, and not take it into their own hands. She moved to assure the public that lawlessness would not be tolerated, and that those responsible would be arrested.

"The South African Police Service has systems in place to deal with police officers who do not take their jobs seriously such that a life is lost."

No arrests have been made and the police have called on anyone with information to come forward. – Sapa
