Large and in charge: Comeback kid L’vovo
Nelspruit music fans can prepare themselves for a Saturday of house and kwaito music as artists such as Fistaz Mixwell, The Soil, Donald and DJ Naves make their way to the city for the annual music festival which takes place on June 8.
L’vovo has said that fans can expect a high energy performance with hits off his Metro FM Award-nominated album The Headmaster.
The Lavo singer will be joined onstage by Mapintsha of the popular Durban kwaito group Big Nuz.
“I love performing live, and especially in a way that gives the fans something special. I can’t wait to collaborate with my good friend, Mapintsha during the Amstel Golden Hour," he said.
“We are going to bring Durban kwaito to Nelspruit fans like they have never seen it before, because the Amstel Golden Hour is all about making the music experience better for the fans and us artists too. It’s going to be incredible. See you in Nelspruit!”
L’Vovo is 19th in a series of top South African artists including Zonke, TKZee, Mafikizolo, The Soil and HHP to perform on this high quality platform.
Sponsors of the the headline act, Amstel, have promised an audio and visual spectacle not to be forgotten.
Controversial kwaito artist Professor
“Amstel has been bringing the best music experiences to tens of thousands of music fans across South Africa through the Amstel Golden Hour platform. These events reflect our commitment to making SA music more enjoyable.” said the marketing manager of Amstel Lager, Diederik Vos.
In a previous interview with the Mail & Guardian, L’vovo explained how controversial kwaito artist Professor phoned him with a beat that would eventually become the biggest song off L’vovo’s new album, The Headmaster.
“This was the first time I had taken a beat from Kalawa,” he said of the Maphorisa and Clap track they shaped into Palesa. “I just loved that beat. Prof said: ‘I want us to work with this beat.’ I could definitely feel its vibe, so I said: Prof, are you sure you’re giving me this beat? He said: ‘The beat is yours.’ I blessed it and he blessed it. You know how well the song is doing.”
The story L’vovo’s tells is a personal tale about a girl who would not settle down with him. He mourns the one that got away with a typical sense of detachment and the presence of Professor completes the song with pitch-perfect, lecherous scheming.
