North West police confirmed that two protesters were shot dead and two wounded during a service delivery protest.

A South African Press Association correspondent reported on Sunday that the man, who allegedly threatened to kill seven police officers earlier this month, was arrested in Pretoria on Friday.

"We commend the good work that was done by our officers," Mpumalanga community safety provincial minister Vusi Shongwe said.

"We believe that this will further signal to other criminals that they do not have anywhere to run. If he is indeed guilty, he must receive the maximum sentence," Shongwe said.

The man was expected to appear in court soon. – Sapa
