This week saw South Africa's leading health experts and most vocal activists flock to Durban for the sixth South African Aids Conference. Researchers released findings from their latest research and advocacy groups called for better interventions to improve the health outcomes of people living with HIV and Aids.
There was robust discussion on what role the World Health Organisation approved and non-surgical circumcision device, the PrePex, can have in initiation practices. Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi urged people to stop pretending that young people don't have sex and simply get on with providing sexual health services in schools, and researchers showed how extending the reach of child support grants can protect girls from sugar daddies.
Could a non-surgical circumcision device have a place in initiation rituals? Will the health and education departments ever see eye to eye on providing contraception at schools? And can we find a way to ensure that every child has access to social grants?
Join us as we speak to health reporters Mia Malan and Amy Green from the M&G's health journalism centre, Bhekisisa, to discuss these issues and more from the South African Aids Conference.
