Pirates Triumph Against Egyptian Giants

Goals from Thandani Ntshumayelo, Andile Jali and Sifiso Myeni helped secure the resounding result in their group A clash. The opener came for Pirates in the 11th minute after good interplay between Ntshumayelo and Collins Mbesuma. Ntshumayelo made his way into the box and produced a clinical finish to make it 1-0 against their Egyptian opponents.

Pirates took control after the goal and could have extended their lead before the break. The visitors, however, were handed the numerical advantage on the verge of half-time. Ahmed Abdul Zaher was given his second yellow card and given his marching orders as the hosts faced the second period with 10 men. Pirates doubled their lead in the 74th minute through a penalty.

Jali stepped up to the spot and had no problem in finding the back of the net to make it 2-0. Bouyed by their two goal advantage, Pirates went for the kill and surged up the filed in numbers. They were quickly rewarded in the 76th minute as Myeni slotted the ball home in front of an open goal, as the Al Ahly defenders were left reeling from some swift Pirates passing.

Al Ahly responded by putting some good passages of play together in search of a consolation goal, but Senzo Meyiwa in the Pirates goal pulled off a number of good saves to keep his side's three goal cushion intact.
