Rapper Olubowale Victor Akintimehin, better known as Wale, is headed to South Africa for a one-day, two-city concert as part of Castle Lite's Extra Cold Summer Experience.
Wale will be performing in Cape Town and Durban.
Other performers at the events include Big Nuz and DreamTeam who will be in Durban and Khuli Chana, Jimmy Nevis, DJ Kent and DJ Milkshake who will be performing in both cities.
"We are also thrilled to be welcoming a world-renowned entertainer such as Wale to our events, an artist who has such a presence in the industry. The Extra Cold Summer Experience in your city is going to be packed with unforgettable, world-class entertainment and is definitely not worth missing," promised Vaughan Croeser, marketing manager for Castle Lite.
Wale became known within hip hop circles in 2006, when his song Dig Dug (Shake It) became popular in his hometown, Washington DC.
Wale's parents are from south-western Nigeria and moved to the United States from Austria in 1979.
The Grammy nominated rapper's début album Attention Deficit was released in 2009 with the singles Chillin, Pretty Girls, and World Tour. In early 2011 Wale was signed to Rick Ross's Maybach Music Group, and his second studio album, Ambition was released on November 1 2011. In June this year, Wale released his third studio album, The Gifted.
The album features Meek Mill, Cee Lo Green, Nicki Minaj, Juicy J, Rihanna, Ne-Yo, Rick Ross, Wiz Khalifa and 2 Chainz amoung others.
In an interview with MTV ahead of the release of The Gifted, Wale said that his aim with the album was to buck the expected rap trends. "I'm giving you music, I'm giving you what the people need," he said. "I'm tired of y'all rappers like, 'I got four joints for the ladies, I got two for the club, I got three inspirational,' … Nah, paint a picture, show me wassup."
The Gifted débuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart, selling 158 000 copies in the United States the first week of its release and 50 000 more copies during the second week. Up to now the album has sold 323 000 copies in the United States.
The Extra Cold Summer events take place at the Wave House in Durban and Hillcrest Quarry in Durbanville, Cape Town on December 21 2013.
Tickets are R350 for general admission and R980 for VIP.
