Lady Gaga: Give Women Of The Year Cover To Malala

This year's Glamour Women of the Year awards saw a flamboyant pop star, a legendary singer and even a former secretary of state honoured.

During her acceptance speech for being chosen to appear on the cover of the magazine, Lady Gaga said, "If I could forfeit my Glamour cover I would give it to Malala [Yousafzai]."

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Gaga elaborated, "I am very grateful that I was chosen to be on the cover, but I think it's really an important time to look at the sphere of all the women that are being honoured tonight. And to turn glamour into something that's not on the outside, but something that's on the inside."

No one drew greater cheers than Yousafzai, the 16-year-old Pakistani education activist. Malala told the crowd that the pen was much mightier than the gun.

Shot in the head by the Taliban a year ago, she has recovered and has risen to global prominence in her campaign for girls' education.

Also appearing was former congressperson Gabrielle Giffords, who along with retired astronaut husband Mark Kelly won the Couple of the Year award for their work on gun safety.
