Armed robbers broke into the home of Crime Line head Yusuf Abramjee in Erasmia, west of Pretoria, on Friday morning, Primedia Broadcasting said in a statement.

The company's head of news and current affairs, his wife, and youngest son were home when the robbery happened, spokesperson Marisa Oosthuizen said in a statement.

"According to Erasmia police, two armed suspects entered Abramjee's premises at around 9.30am this morning after they cut the electric fence surrounding the property."

The robbers demanded the keys of Abramjee's BMW and fired shots at the house as they reversed out of the garage.

Oosthuizen said Abramjee and his son fired back at the men.

Confrontation
Police had confronted the armed robbers during an attempted break-in at a nearby property earlier and it was suspected they wanted to steal a getaway vehicle when they targeted Abramjee's house.

"A stolen blue Mercedes-Benz was found at the first scene with equipment used for house break-ins," Oosthuizen said.

Abramjee's car had not been recovered by early Friday afternoon.

No one was wounded during the robbery and the shoot-out at Abramjee's house.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said no one had been arrested by 1.30pm. – Sapa
