Durban train crash leaves 12 injured

One person has died as a result of injuries sustained when a temporary scaffolding collapsed at a concert at the Cape Town Stadium due to high winds.

Twelve people were injured when two trains collided at the Berea Road station in Durban on Friday morning, the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (Prasa) said.

Two of the injured were the drivers of the trains, Prasa's KwaZulu-Natal spokesperson Isabel van der Westhuizen said.

"They all suffered minor injuries."

The cause of the accident was unknown and would be investigated.

Paramedics said one passenger was critically injured while others sustained moderate injuries in the crash around 8am.

They were treated on the scene and taken to various hospitals, Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha said. – Sapa
