Afrikaans singer Steve Hofmeyr is expected to appear in the Bronkhorstspruit Magistrate's Court on Monday on charges of reckless and negligent driving and exceeding the general speed limit.
Hofmeyr was arrested in Bronkhorstspruit on the night of December 19 for speeding, and was released on bail of R500.
At the time, Gauteng traffic police spokesperson Busaphi Nxumalo said Hofmeyr was caught driving at 169km/h in an 80km/h zone.
In a statement posted on his Facebook page a day after his arrest, Hofmeyr said it was irresponsible to speed.
"I concede this was irresponsible and dangerous."
Court-date confusion
He also complimented the police officers who dealt with him, describing them as "friendly, professional and thorough" and thanked those who were on duty.
Last Monday, there was confusion about the court appearance date for Hofmeyr, with police believing he would appear that day.
However the National Prosecuting Authority clarified that he would in fact be appearing on the last Monday of the month. – Sapa
