Moroccan Consular Found Dead In Pretoria

A Moroccan consulate employee was found dead on Tuesday at a rented flat in Pretoria, Gauteng police said.

Fatmi Noureddine, in his 40s, was found in a pool of blood around midday by his colleagues, Brigadier Neville Malila said. “His colleagues went looking for him after he did not pitch for work in the morning.”

No suspects had been identified and no arrests had been made yet, Malila said. Police were waiting for medical and autopsy results to determine the cause of death, he said. A murder docket was opened.

Police are still investigating how and why Noureddine was killed. An autopsy is being carried out. “The police are very cautious” a clearly distraught diplomatic colleague told Agence-France Presse. “It has to be a robbery. He did not turn up for work at the normal time, which seemed strange because he was always on time. His phone was off.”

A cell phone was said to be missing from the scene, but it was not known if he had any money at home. – Sapa-AFP
