1. Keri Hilson and Serge Ibaka

US singer Keri Hilson and her basketball player husband Serge Ibaka, who is originally from Congo, took it back to ancient Africa for the day. With horse in tow, Hilson and Ibaka dressed up as the original royal couple: Queen Nefertiti and Akhenaten – pharaoh of Egypt’s 18th dynasty.

2. Beyoncé and Jay Z

From being spotted at Frieze Art Fair in London to posing in front of the Mona Lisa in Paris, US rapper Jay Z and singer Beyoncé continued on that art wave this Halloween. Locks and wayfarer sunglasses, Jay Z donned celebrated artist Basquiat’s look, while Bey was spotted in a flower crown and thick eyebrows, a la Mexican artist Frida Kahlo.

3. Oscar Pistorius look-a-like

Someone thought it would be appropriate to dress up as fallen hero Oscar Pistorius – the track athlete who was recently sentenced to a maximum of five years imprisonment for culpable homicide. We’ll just leave it there.

4. Lee-Ann Liebenberg

In honour of the Mexican holiday, Day of the Dead (or Día de Muertos) – which is currently being celebrated in Mexico and around the world – South African model Lee-Ann Liebenberg donned a sugar skull. According to Mexicansugarskull.com, “sugar skulls go back to the colonial period 18th century. Sugar skulls represented a departed soul, had the name written on the forehead and was placed on the home ofrenda or gravestone to honour the return of a particular spirit”.

5. Kim Kardashian and Joyce Bonelli

Reality-TV star Kim Kardashian, her make-up artist Joyce Bonelli and their children, were all about mimicking fashion-industry heavyweights last Friday. Kardashian wore her best Anna Wintour face and Bonelli channelled US Vogue magazine creative director Grace Coddington. While US rapper Kanye West and Kardashian’s daughter North West went as Vogue’s former editor-at-large André Leon Talley and Bonelli’s son pulled off his best Karl Lagerfeld look.

6. Desmond and the Tutus

Indie-rock band Desmond and the Tutus dressed up as characters from author JK Rowling’s bestselling book series Harry Potter.
