Cassper Nyovest nominated for a BET award
Cassper Nyovest and AKA are the latest local music acts to be nominated for a 2015 BET music award. On June 15, the international network announced that rapper Cassper Nyovest was nominated in a new category, International Viewer’s Choice Award, which allows the fans to vote for their favourite artist. Fellow rapper was also announced as a nominee in the category Best International Act: Africa, alongside trio The Soil in May 2015. The two rappers, who’ve often been compared to each other, are again in competition for an award. May the best artist win.
The award show will take place on June 28 in Los Angeles.
Johnny Clegg receives the OBE
South African artist, activist and philanthropist Johnny Clegg has been honoured with the Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) on June 13. The order rewards and acknowledges individuals who have served in fields such as in the arts and public service. Clegg was honoured by Queen Elizabeth ll as part of the Birthday Honours list. The guitarist is renowned for being a member of crossover 1960s band, Juluka, which he formed with musician Sipho Mchunu. Clegg has been in music industry for over 30 years, and at the age of 62 he has no plans of slowing down. He already has tours in Europe and North America lined up for 2016.
He is no stranger to honours and orders – in 1991 he was awarded the Chevalier des Arts et Lettres (Knight of Arts and Letters) by the French Government and in 2012 he received the highest honour in South Africa from President Jacob Zuma, which was the South African Presidential Ikhamanga award as part of the National Orders ceremony.
Bobbi Kristina Brown to go off life support
It has been four months since Bobbi Kristina Brown was admitted to hospital after she was found unconscious in a bathtub on January 31 2015. Brown, who is the daughter of late singing sensation Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown, has been unresponsive on life support since January. According to Daily Mail reports, Brown’s family wants to remove her from a rehab facility and take her back to her Georgia town home, to the house where she lived with her mother, ‘to die’ peacefully. However the 22 year-old’s father, Bobby, is against the decision to remove her from life support. A Brown family source told People magazine: “Bobby is never going to take her off life support.”

Local actor’s attempted hijack caught on tape
Former Isidingo and Marikana: The Musical actor Meshack Mavuso Magabane, walked off with just a few bruises after two men attempted to hijack him outside a friend’s house in Buccleuch, Johannesburg, on the evening of June 7, eNCA reported. The incident was caught on CCTV and Magabane is seen in the video being forced out of his car outside of his friend Mike Maile’s house. In an interview with eNCA, he said he only got terrified once the hijackers had left. “But as that thing was happening, I was like very brave. I don’t know where I got that bravery … I just got so emotional after the whole ordeal,” he told the station.
Anele Mdoda is pregnant and stoked
Highveld FM deejay Anele Mdoda has joined the list of pregnant celebrities. Mdoda revealed that she was pregnant at the YOU Spectacular award show on June 13 held at Emperors Palace in Johannesburg. She walked away with the award for favourite radio personality on the night and looked gorgeous in white sheer dress. The mom-to-be recently posted a photo on Instagram of a miniature pair of sneakers.
Chris Brown still fighting for Karrueche Tran
RnB star Chris Brown and his ex-girlfriend Karrueche Tran are at it again. Tran took to Instagram to air out the couple’s dirty laundry in a rather long post.

This post comes after the model’s interview with Access Hollywood last week, where she touched on her relationship with Chris Brown, US magazine reported. Brown took a mature approach and responded with his post: “I’m eternally thankful for you being in a part of my life. I’ve learned so much from you,” the 26-year-old wrote on Instagram I wish u nothing but happiness and the best.”
He added, “@karrueche all I was doing was trying to fight for the woman I love. Thanx I learned a lot.”
