Students from the Eastcape Midlands College in Grahamstown (EMC) have just arrived and have joined in song with Rhodes University students who are continuing their protest over the anticipated tuition increases for the 2016 academic year and the Minimum Initial Payment of their fees due in early January.

EMC students received support yesterday from Rhodes University students who marched over to their campus to join in the protest against the alleged misuse of National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) funding by the college. An increased police presence has been noticed upon the arrival of the EMC students to the Rhodes University Campus.

Rhodes University students have made placards in anticipation of the national strike, which they will be partaking in tomorrow. Student leaders of the Rhodes University strike have indicated that there will be a national shutdown on Wednesday, October 21, which will include Rhodes University, the University of the Witwatersrand, the University of Cape Town and a number of other institutions.
