  • The Goethe-Institut’s African Futures consists of three interdisciplinary festivals in Jo’burg, Lagos and Nairobi, which will explore the future “following potential narratives and artistic expression in literature, fine arts, performance, music, film and various digital formats”. There will be panel discussions with film experts at the Goethe-Institut in Parkwood, film screenings at The Bioscope at 286 Fox Street, an exhibition at a pop-up gallery at 1354 Mncube Drive in Dube, Soweto, and a music concert at the Alex theatre. The concert features artists Spoek Mathambo, Keziah Jones, Just a Band and Gato Preto. WHEN October 30 and 31.   • The South African Music Awards-winning producer and artist PH will launch his From Giyani With Love album live on stage at the Koolest Sunday rooftop party at the weekend. Koolest Sunday is known for hosting some of the best live music acts in hip-hop. PH is an artist who delivers a highly entertaining performance. He has worked with artists such as Khuli Chana, Kabomo, AKA, Yanga, KO, Kid-X, Thandiswa Mazwai and Reason. Other music acts in the line-up include South Africa Got’s Talent 2014 semifinalists band, New Creation, featuring Ginger Breadman, DJ Cyrus Beats, DJ Zan-D (Y-FM), Javas Skolo and Ace of Spades.   • Indie rock band Shortstraw will perform at Halloween block parties in Pretoria and Jo’burg at what they call “spooky” venues. The Youthless hitmakers will share the stage with 19 other music acts, including Zebra & Giraffe, Timo ODV, PHAT and Bittereinder. There will be four stages with live music acts and five bars.   • The culinary and lifestyle event, Good Food and Wine Show, will feature up-and-coming and leading chefs and brands. Chef Peter Ayub, MasterChef South Africa finalist Claire Allen and TV personality Lorna Maseko will demonstrate their skills.   • Kiters from four countries – South Africa, Germany, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom – will showcase their finest creations at the 21st Cape Town International Kite Festival. The event encourages mental well-being and family time, and all its profits go to Cape Mental Health. Festivalgoers can expect to see creations such as a 30m worm and a family of octopuses, designed by Cape Town kite-maker Ian Islip, a 77m Chinese dragon kite built especially for the festival by local kite maker Philip Hattingh, and the traditional Cape Swaeltjie kites. This family-friendly festival will also offer free kite-making workshops for children, competitions, craft and food stalls, as well as live entertainment. WHEN October 31 to November???1.
