Comedian and Miss Universe 2015 host Steve Harvey crowned the wrong Miss Universe on Sunday and had to put out a couple of apologetic tweets after the event. He fluffed the apology too, misspelling Colombia and the Philippines in a tweet that he later deleted.

At the event Steve Harvey initially wrongfully declared Miss Colombia the winner (she was actually first runner up), and then had to reannounce the winner (Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach) while Miss Colombia donned the crown and blew kisses at the crowd.

Harvey then sent a series of apologetic tweets.

Somizi apologises for #ZumaMustFall and Mark Pilgrim loses the plot

Somizi Mhlongo.

The furore over choreographer and Idols SA judge Somizi Mhlongo’s #ZumaMustFallcomments on Instagram seem to have crossed over into the new week with radio and TV personality Mark Pilgrim still trending on twitter by Monday morning.

Pilgrim wrote a reply to Mhlongo’s post about “racist white South Africans hoping that Zuma’s fall will give them a white president” – a post for which Mhlongo later apologised.

The post was prompted by images Mhlongo saw of white South Africans wearing Vierkleur T-shirts, which he believed were taken from the march.

Pilgrim weighed in on Mhlongo’s post rather late, after it had been reported that the apartheid flag images were not from the march.

The #ZumaMustFall campign was sparked by the president’s axing of finance minister Nhlanhla Nene, replacing him with David van Rooyen only to replace him with Pravin Gordham – all within the span of four days. To a large extent, the campaign highlighted South Africa’s racial faultlines, of which the Mhlongo/Pilgrim saga is a prime example.

Pilgrim, it seems, was still trying to explain himself on Sunday, with singer Simphiwe Dana sharing his Facebook post on Twitter with the question, “How is it Somizi’s fault that Mark Pilgrim is racist?

After this apology, Mhlongo drew criticism from his black fans, who did not see the need for the apology.

Tupac biopic actor a doppelgänger

Tupac.

The Tupac biopic, apparently titled All Eyez On Me, is finally under way, with the lead role of Tupac Shakur being played by a striking lookalike, Demetrius Shipp Jr. Shipp Jr, whose father worked in the music industry will be starring in his first movie role. The role of Biggie Smalls, Tupac’s one-time friend turned archrival, will be played by Notorious actor Jamal Woodard.

The film has been plagued by false starts in the form of director replacements and a multimillion-dollar lawsuit. In October this year, Vibe magazine reported that producer Emmett Furla Oasis was seeking $10-million in damages from Morgan Creek Productions for reportedly exceeding the pre-approved budget and casting a lead without proper consultation.

ProVerb and wife call it quits

ProVerb.

Idols SA host and hip hop artist ProVerb (born -Tebogo Thekisho) and wife Onalerona Thekisho have called it quits after ten marriage. Moreo took to Facebook to announce their divorce in a note:

To my family
Thank you for all the support and love that you have shown me. Today marks a new beginning for all of us. The divorce order has been granted.
Through Gods grace and faith, I believe that God will continue to be faithful to us and lead in our lives. My prayer is for us to continue to have the heart to always forgive and cherish every new day that God blesses us with.
I’m grateful for your love. Peace be with you always.
Love Onalerona Moreo

Allegations of Thekisho cheating on ProVerb surfaced in August this year. It was reported that she had a two-year affair with businessman Edwin Sodi. ProVerb confirmed the cheating rumours on Twitter and asked that people spare his wife of any judgment.

Thekisho and ProVerb showed signs of reconciliation when they were spotted at events together soon after the cheating scandal. But it seems they were not able to make their marriage work. The couple has two children together.
