St Stithians College students experience a holistic and relevant education, grounded in values that reflect our identity as a Methodist school. We educate thinkers, leaders and citizens for today and tomorrow. We seek to be a college of welcome and wonder, of gratitude and service.
St Stithians College comprises seven schools: St Stithians Junior Preparatory; St Stithians Boys’ Preparatory; St Stithians Girls’ Preparatory; St Stithians Boys’ College; St Stithians Girls’ College; the Thandulwazi Maths & Science Academy; and the Kamoka Bush School.
The 2015 matric results once again highlighted the value of our commitment to academic excellence and support across the range of student abilities, including a values-based leadership curriculum, and extensive sports and cultural programmes. Students and staff are involved in organised community engagement activities and partnerships.
Our 2015 matriculants achieved a 100% pass rate, including 567 distinctions.
To the 2015 matriculants Ivanka Acquisto, head of the Girls’ College, wrote: “These academic results speak for themselves. You are a credit to Saints, your teachers, and your parents. Well done!
“What makes us even more proud, is that while you were students at Saints, you have also fulfilled our vision of developing whole girls.
“Every girl has been involved not only in the academic programme but also in the sporting, cultural, service and leadership opportunities offered by our school. I am reminded about our sporting prowess this year, particularly winning the Inter-high Gala; our cultural achievements in drama, music, and art; and our Lead SA hero of the month, depicting our firm belief in servant leadership and service.
“Every girl counts and every girl is encouraged to be her best self, to find her niche and to make a difference to others.
“May you all continue to ‘inspire excellence and make a world of difference’ in 2016 as proud Saints alumnae.”
To the 2015 matriculants David Knowles, head of the Boys’ College, wrote: “Congratulations on these outstanding academic results! Your results in your finals are testimony to your hard work, perseverance and motivation. However, I am sure that you will join with me in thanking your parents and teachers, both your matric teachers, and those who taught you in the younger grades, for preparing you for this final set of school assessments — and who have prepared you for future assessments.
“You have brought great credit to your school in 2015, you can reflect on your successes with pride.”
The leadership philosophy of Girls’ College is underpinned by an understanding of “servant leadership”. The school aims to educate its young women to be strong and effective leaders in our society.
The Boys’ College has seven pillars: academics, sport, culture, community service, leadership, outdoor education, and spirituality. Through these it encourages each boy to realise his maximum potential as a citizen of significance in this school and in our country.
The Thandulwazi Maths and Science Academy was founded over 10 years ago by the St Stithians Foundation, with the intention of making a world of difference for students and teachers beyond the college. Thandulwazi advances maths and science education through its interaction with students and teachers in Gauteng and Limpopo schools. The academy offers a Saturday School, which is free and open to students in grades 10 to matric writing the National Senior Certificate. The Saturday School offers Saturday tuition in mathematics, physical sciences, accounting, English, and life sciences.
In 2015 the Thandulwazi Saturday School achieved a 98.19% pass rate; the national pass rate was 70.7%. Thandulwazi works closely with a number of stakeholders including school principals and provincial education departments to improve education in South Africa.
