Philanthropist and mentor

Lillian Moremi is passionate about education and youth development.

After graduating with an accounting degree from the University of Cape Town, Moremi founded the Botswana Student Network Society with the support of mentors and other driven young people.

In June 2016, Moremi coordinated the first Botswana Youth Jobs Fair in efforts to address youth unemployment in the country. The three-day event brought together various stakeholders to create long-lasting solutions to the issue.

Youth were given a chance to engage with industry experts and employers around ideas to curb unemployment in Botswana. This inaugural national job fair attracted over 1 000 participants — the majority of whom were unemployed youth. The fair targeted graduates, young professionals, aspiring entrepreneurs, job seekers and students.

Moremi passionately believes that young people possess enormous creative and innovative potential to impact and lead every sphere of society. Civil society has the onus to invest in their personal development now, given that the youth represent the future of the country.

Founded in 2011 and registered in January 2012, the Botswana Student Network Society has tackled career issues such as academic excellence, leadership and social responsibility in an effort to manage the transition from secondary to tertiary education to the world of business. The Society is currently working with educational stakeholders to bring opportunities closer to the students through career guidance and motivational talks.

An accredited BQA trainer in career coaching, public speaking, motivational speaking and financial accounting, Moremi has for the past five years been volunteering and empowering students across the country to promote academic excellence.

Moremi is the founder of the company Career Coaching, and strongly believes that entrepreneurship is the key driving factor in curbing unemployment and generate new flows of business innovation.

Among other key moments in her life that drive her convictions forward, Moremi’s visit to Antarctica on a leadership expedition has played a pivotal role in shaping her career. This unique experience was aimed at building personal leadership skills, inspiring change and creating committed global educational and environmental ambassadors. More personally the trip offered a cold, desolate and lonely world outside her window. This harsh but beautiful environment encouraged Moremi to get out of her comfort zone and go for dreams that were big enough to scare her. She has dedicated her life to seeing others dream as boldly and brazenly. — CHARMAINE REVAKA
