Ekurhuleni Comes Alive with the Gospel According to Jazz

On Friday April 7 2017 The Ekurhuleni Comes Alive Jazz Evening will host a special Easter weekend with the Gospel According to Jazz. This will be a special jazz performance with gospel interpretation. The evening will kickstart with new sensation from Mpumalanga Sicelo Moya, an accomplished musician and anointed songwriter born from a musical family. Moya was chosen to be part of The Gospel According to Jazz because of his vocal capabilities — he can do anything with his voice. Moya’s album Bread of Life has earned him nominations in four categories at the Crown Gospel Music Awards, where he won Best Worship Song in 2013. He has also featured on the legendary Benjamin Dube’s latest album Renewal in His Presence, where he lead popular songs Potter`s House and sanctified in his presence. On the evening of April 7, jazz songs will be given gospel interpretation, and gospel songs will also be done with a jazz interpretation.

Sicelo will then hand over the evening to Thabo Mdluli and his wife Nonhlanhla to light up the stage with their collaboration. The couple is preparing some surprises of what they have been working on. They will bring meaning to The Gospel According to Jazz and with their voices’ capabilities the patrons can expect to be blessed.

They will then hand over the evening to Brenda Mtambo to continue on the evening with spiritual renditions of afro jazz songs. Mtambo has been capturing the attention of patrons at Ekurhuleni Comes Alive Jazz Evenings every time she takes the stage. But this time she is preparing something different. It will be a revelation of what is this musician can do in the afro jazz spiritual space — you can expect popular songs with a jazz and gospel touch.

Just as the patrons will be thinking that this is it, Nokukhanya Dlamini will be introduced on the stage for her own full set, which will culminate in a collaboration with Brenda Mtambo and Thabo and Nonnhlala Mduli, and will lead to an exciting grand finale which will surely keep the patrons asking for more.

As in the Birchwood tradition, the mind, the body and the soul will be fed with their three-course meal, drinks on the table and dessert. All the Ekurhuleni Comes Alive Jazz Evening shows are treated as VVIP shows, so the five-star service comes standard. The night will have the normal comedy in between and lots of prizes to be won.

The Ekurhuleni Comes Alive Jazz Evening is made possible by the Ekhuruleni metro, the Birchwood Hotel and OR Tambo Conference Centre in partnership with SAFM and the Sowetan and is presented by Hector the Motivator.
