A train collision in Pretoria on Tuesday claimed the lives of three people, Emergency medical service ER 24 reported. The number of injured people has yet to be confirmed.

“I can confirm that there is a train collision in Mountain View and a number of commuters are injured,” Metrorail spokesperson Lillian Mofokeng told News 24. She said paramedics are attending the commuters and prioritising people who have been injured.

Mofokeng confirmed to eNCA that two trains collided after being admitted on the same track, however, it is too early to determine the cause of the crash.

She said that several train lines will be shut down for the time being.
