The Mail & Guardian is proud to welcome acclaimed political journalist Natasha Marrian as its political editor.

With more than a decade of experience in political reporting, Marrian has built a reputation as an astute political journalist, investigative reporter and commentator. Until recently she led the political team at Business Day where she also produced a widely read column that provided insight into the political spectacle of the week.

In recent times alone Marrian has helped guide her readership through the change of guard within the ANC, with the fall of president Jacob Zuma and rise of president Cyril Ramaphosa, while also providing clarity on the political reverberations of the #GuptaLeaks and the various state capture commissions currently underway.

Marrian has also previously worked at The Citizen and Gulf News, a news publication based in Dubai.

M&G editor-in-chief Khadija Patel said she was excited by Marrian’s appointment and hoped her tenure at the M&G would hail a new chapter of political insight at the publication.

“We are privileged to have Natasha join the M&G. Her depth of knowledge, contacts and insight in our critical political sphere will prove invaluable in building what is arguably the strongest newsroom in the country,” Patel said.

Marrian takes up the position on March 1 2019.
