DA releases alternative Budget

The South African Treasury should set aside about R1,1-billion a year to increase the pace of land reform and protect the principle of willing buyer, willing seller, says the official opposition Democratic Alliance in its alternative Budget released ahead of Wednesday’s national Budget by Minister of Finance Trevor Manuel.

IFP mayor, councillors defect to Nadeco

<img src="http://www.mg.co.za/ContentImages/262374/vote-box_blue.gif" align=left>Inkatha Freedom Party Ingwe municipality mayor Innocent Miya and three councillors from nearby Ubuhlebezwe municipality have defected to Ziba Jiyane’s National Democratic Convention (Nadeco). Miya, according to Nadeco spokesperson Linda Hlongwa MPL, has been mayor of Ingwe since 2000.

Tshwane mayor low on list, PE mayor dropped

The African National Congress has published its national consolidated list of candidates for all municipalities for the 2006 local government elections due to take place on March 1. Nelson Mandela metro mayor Nceba Faku does not appear at all on the list while Tshwane Mayor Smangaliso Mkhathswa appears at number four slot.

DA leader laments ANC’s ‘broken promises’
