Politicians in training

Luvo Gila may be only 12 years old, but as youth minister of foreign affairs he has many responsibilities. He spends his time attending functions such as the recent Africa Aerospace and Defence Show at Waterkloof Air Base, where he hobnobbed with Minister of Defence Mosiuoa Lekota.

Converting to coupés

Convertibles have never been my favourite cars. They’re often noisy, the cloth tops are sometimes a mission to get up and down, and they lack the security offered by a normal car. The recent trend towards hard-tops that fold themselves neatly away into the boot eliminated most of my objections, however, and the new Renault Megane Coupé-Cabriolet has just won my heart.

This one’s a goer!

The new Mercedes-Benz C55 AMG is quite simply the most uncompromising sports saloon available. From the outside it advertises its attitude with the longer nose of the CLK55, 18” AMG alloy rims, a snazzy exhaust that ends up in aggressive twin tail pipes. It’s loaded to the gunwales with trickery in the suspension and brake department too, in case you think the styling is just fancy-dress.

MG Rover expands its family in SA again

MG Rover has introduced a new MG model to South Africa. The MG ZT 160 1.8T, baby brother to the 2,5 litre MG ZT 190, costs R50 000 less than the R315 000 tag of the ZT 190, and gets along pretty briskly with the 118 kW and 215 Nm that its turbocharged 1,8 litre four cylinder engine dishes up.
