Brown takes the blame for election row

British Prime Minister Gordon Brown on Monday said he took ”full responsibility” for the decision not to call an early election, but rejected claims he had run scared from a possible defeat. Brown told an often rowdy news conference that he had instead opted to wait and take a long-term approach before going to the polls.

Bush, Brown agree to boost Darfur pressure

Visiting British Prime Minister Gordon Brown said on Monday that he and United States President George Bush will ”step up” pressure to end violence in Sudan’s Darfur province, as the two leaders wrapped up talks. ”I’ve agreed with the president that we step up our pressure to end the violence that has displaced two million people,” Brown told a press conference.
