Oilgate: Did Majali try to bribe Skweyiya?

Sandi Majali’s controversial R65 000 loan for the renovation of Minister of Social Development Zola Skweyiya’s home was made only four weeks after a consortium, IT Lynx — of which he was a part — demanded that Skweyiya award it a stalled R400‑million tender. This new evidence casts doubt on Majali’s earlier excuse that he had no motive to try to bribe Skweyiya.

A picture of a grand conspiracy

The ”e-mails” currently being investigated by the Inspector General of Intelligence, Zolile Ngcakani, purport to provide evidence for a grand unified conspiracy theory of the succession battle in the African National Congress. These documents, however, show clear signs of being faked, including dubious e-mail addresses and demonstrably false content.

Govt sits on UN report

The government has yet to decide how to handle the fallout from the United Nations inquiry into the world body’s controversial Iraqi "oil-for-food" programme.
The report of the UN Independent Inquiry Committee, released in October, points fingers at thousands of companies for having allegedly flouted provisions of UN sanctions against the government of former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein.

How Kasrils trapped Masetlha

Intrigue at the highest level of the government, including an extraordinary political ambush and counter-ambush, has been disclosed in court documents lodged by suspended National Intelligence Agency director general Billy Masetlha. Masetlha is attempting a high court challenge to his axing last month by Intelligence Minister Ronnie Kasrils.
