Variety of nominees for Woman of the Year Award

An advocate, a youth talk show host and an educator have been named finalists in the education category of this year’s ShopriteCheckers/SABC2 Woman of the Year Award. Advocate Molly Malete, Lotus FM presenter CJ Benjamin and educator Carole Podetti Ngono were selected by a panel of judges chaired by Professor Teboho Moja, who has been special adviser to two ministers of education in South Africa.

Beware the ‘silent killers’

If you are a teacher who always feel stressed, who neglects your nutrition and fails to exercise, then now is the time to make some lifestyle changes as September is Heart Awareness Month. Robert de Souza, CEO of the Heart and Stroke Foundation, said it would create awareness of the risk factors associated with heart disease and to remind everyone to have them tested for the “silent killers” high cholesterol and blood pressure.

The Catholic Education network has declared 2006 Care of the Teacher Year, the Catholic Institute of Education announced. This is to acknowledge the dedication of all teachers and support staff of Catholic schools and the many Catholic teachers and school staff working in public and independent schools throughout the country.
