Under-23 coach hopes to unearth new talent

South Africa’s Under-23 coach, Steve Komphela, is hoping to unearth future stars from the 23 men he has selected to represent South Africa at the Sasol Under-23 Nations Tournament. They will find themselves up against stiff competition from seven strong teams when the tournament starts on Sunday January 8.

Bucks drown in goal avalanche

Supersport United took a leaf from the goal-scoring fortunes of their city rivals Mamelodi Sundowns when they drowned Bush Bucks with an avalanche of goals at Loftus Versfeld on Thursday evening. United were in no festive mood as they recorded a clinical and comprehensive 6-0 victory over the bottom-of-the-log Bucks.

Chiefs prove too strong for Pirates

Kaizer Chiefs proved a little too strong for their bitter rivals Orlando Pirates in the Castle Premiership encounter played at a packed FNB Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Chiefs’ 1-0 victory was their second triumph over their Soweto counterparts this season after having run away with the first game 2-0.

Cosmos win on penalties

Jomo Cosmos re-affirmed a South African football myth when they beat SuperSport United 4-1 on penalties to bag themselves the lucrative Coca-Cola Cup at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Saturday. Having beaten giants Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates en route to lifting the trophy, Cosmos proved a tad too strong over their opponents in the penalty shoot-out.

Confident Dumitru takes charge of Bafana

New Bafana Bafana interim coach Ted Dumitru is a rather confident man, but he failed to put his head on the block on Friday about his team’s chances of winning the African Cup of Nations. Dumitru will commence his duties from December 1 and his contract with the South African Football Association will run until the end of February.

Baxter tendered his letter of resignation to Safa CEO Raymond Hack on Tuesday afternoon.
