Sibikwa Arts Centre, based in Benoni, has packaged an exciting arts and culture calendar for learners and teachers as part of arts education. The programme, which will run for the entire year, covers dance, music and arts teacher workshops.
The activities are aimed at creating opportunities for both teachers and learners and also to encourage the use of arts and culture to turn the classroom into a fun learning space.
The following activities are planned to run until the first week of September 2010:
Grade 8 learners will be given an opportunity to learn more about careers in the arts, and worksheets will assist learners in writing reviews and reflecting on what they have seen and heard.
This four-hour programme can accommodate 50 to 100 learners. The admission fee is R40.
The workshop ties in well with the arts and culture curriculum and encourages audience participation. It can accommodate 100 to 250 learners and runs for the whole year with a R25 admission fee.
The workshop runs for two hours and can accommodate 30 teachers. Admission is R50.
Neo Leleka and Easy Mathipa, both renowned musical directors, use a group of 12 enthusiastic and talented young musicians to inspire learners to know more about our heritage.
The demonstrations last for 50 minutes to one hour and can accommodate 100 to 250 learners.
These demonstrations will be conducted throughout the year and the admission fee is R25.
